I started at Morgan Travel in April 2004; prior to working here I worked at Lunn Poly for 2 years. I’ve always been interested in travel at the age of 7yrs I was helping out the cabin crew serving orange juice to passengers on a flight to America on a Boeing 747. I was so excited I even got to meet the captain and joined the junior air jets and received my badge and certificate.
At high school my teacher (who is now one of my customers) arranged my work experience at a local travel agent. I was in charge of typing up all the letters to customers, brochure management and of course making the tea!
It wasn’t until later in my career that I entered the world of travel, I had my 2 daughters and worked in Marketing and Management for Cable and Wireless. I was made redundant and a role was advertised at a Lunn Poly near to where I was working so I applied and got the job. I worked at this agency for 2 years, they had a great training program but I didn’t like the fact you had to book only their products or if you book other companies you were questioned as to why you didn’t book a Tui product.
After moving to Morgan Travel it was like changing to a brand new industry, the amount of tour operators we could work with was overwhelming at first but I soon got the hang of it and after 6 years I took over the company as Director.
In my time at Morgan Travel I have been very lucky and have travelled to 5 of the 7 continents, some have been personal holidays but lots have been educational trips, which are so important. When we have visited a destination it is so much easier to offer advice to our customers.
People always ask “where your favourite destination?” this is really hard question to answer but here are two of my favourites.
Mauritius – I’ve visited this beautiful Island three times, each visit has been very different from the last. Historically diverse, Mauritius has been under Portuguese, Dutch, French and English rule, resulting in a wide blend of architecture and culture and a variety of exciting fusion cuisines. The people of Mauritius are so friendly, we named it Smiley Island! The beaches are soft and sandy; it’s a great place to take advantage of the water sports on offer and has recently been named the best destination for golf, with courses designed by the likes of Bernhard Langer and Peter Matkovich. Families love Mauritius too, with most of the hotels offering fantastic kids clubs with a wide selection of activities for the kids leaving mum and dad time to relax by the beach or in the spa. Mauritius has some world class spa’s using leading brand products so you can relax and pamper yourself. With the beautiful surroundings and the gorgeous year-round climate of the island Mauritius has something for everyone.
Borneo – I booked this holiday for my 40th Birthday, We stopped off in Kuala Lumpur and also visited Langkawi. So we had a mixture of city, beach and wildlife and we encountered lots of wildlife along the way including my absolute favourite the Orangutan also named man of the forest; we flew from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan and visited Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Sepilok consists of 43sqkms on the edge of Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. During a visit you will learn about the programme of re-adjustment to the wild and see a daily feeding session. We were very lucky to see a mother with her baby when the Orangutan have finished feeding the cheeky little monkeys come to take any leftovers.
In Langkawi we stayed in Pantai Cenang which is the busiest of the beach resort on the island with plenty of beach bars, cafes and restaurants. We hired a taxi for a full day’s island tour and also booked a day trip which included a Mangrove Forest & Eagle Watching Tour.
The great thing about Malaysia, is that whatever travel means to you, you can find an experience here that will fulfil your wildest dreams. Adding in the great weather, and the fact that it’s super cheap and you’ll see that Malaysia has, quite literally, got it all.
I love to travel, this year so far I’ve been lucky enough to visit Thailand, Canada, Gdansk and have Lisbon and Porto, Tenerife and New York already booked for later in the year and early 2018.

This year I will have been in travel for nearly 27 years – I started work at Woodcock Travel, Leeds back in 1981 and worked my way up from Travel clerk to Assistant Manager I left that office in 1990 to be Manger at the Moortown Branch and worked there until I became pregnant with my eldest daughter and left in November 1992.
I had my youngest daughter in 1994 and then returned to work in 2001 after 9 years of being a full-time Mum.
I started working part-time for Morgan Travel in September 2001 – I will always remember my 2nd day at Morgan’s sadly because it was the week when the 9/11 attacks took place in New York! I have now been with the company to this present date which means I’ve been here for over 15 years! During that time I have met some lovely customers & enjoy working for an independent company.
I have visited many countries over the years and been on over 9 cruises predominantly with P&O Cruises but also on the QE2 twice & mostly to the Mediterranean but also the Caribbean. I have been many times to Mainland Spain & particularly loved Seville. I have also been to the Balearics ( Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca) and the Canaries (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura)- Portugal including the Algarve and the Estoril coast. Austria (Kitzbuhel, Salzburg, Vienna)- Greek islands (Corfu, Rhodes, Kefalonia)- Croatia (Dubrovnik, Korcula, Rovinj) & Italy is one of my favourite areas and I’ve been to Portofino, Florence, Sorrento, Rome, Venice, Milan & Lake Como which was breathtaking. I am planning to add to my Italy collection this year by visiting Sicily and Lake Maggiore. I have also been to Egypt, Dubai, Israel & Cyprus.
Travelling West I love the USA and have visited New York more than 6 times so yes it really is one of my favourite places as It’s such an exciting city.
I have also been to San Francisco & Yosemite National Park – Washington DC – Boston & Martha’s Vineyard and Florida (Orlando & St Petersburg). Canada is also a great place and I have stayed in Toronto & Niagara Falls.
I really enjoy city breaks too and have been to Nice, Budapest, Prague, Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon & closer to home I love London too – especially going to see West End shows.
My favourite place would have to be New York but having visited there so many times I would also say I love Italy because of the wonderful climate, scenery & the Italian people.
On my bucket list would definitely be South Africa which I’m hoping to visit in the next few years as I would love to do a safari & to visit Cape Town & travel the garden route.
My hobbies include – going to the theatre/concerts a little bit of gardening & I love watching movies so I’m a bit of a film buff too!
I like – Spending time with my family & friends.
I dislike- pessimistic people!

In total, I have worked in travel for 12 years. I started with Thomson as a modern apprentice in 2005 at the age of 17. After 2 years, I moved to the Otley branch as Assistant Manager, and in 2009, was Manager of the Bingley Branch. Overall, I worked for Thomson for 8 years in various roles and branches, before starting work at Morgan Travel in February 2013.
Favourite destination and why?
Cyprus. There is so much history here, all reachable within a reasonably short driving distance. I have stayed in various places on the East coast where there are quiet resorts with traditional tavernas and shops, to the more lively areas, which suit both young crowds and families. The best had to be visiting Nicosia and the Troodos Mountains. The views from there are beautiful, and the little villages and monasteries are well worth visiting. The local cuisine and wines are delicious.
Holiday bucket list destinations and why?
Australia definitely. I have family in Perth that have lived there for over 20 years, and I still haven’t been to see them. I would also like to do some travelling, hire a camper and explore.
Africa – I would love to visit the National parks, experience the wildlife, set up camp, meet the Maasai, and learn about their culture. After all that, I’d need to relax on the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar!
Tobago – I have wanted to visit this island since watching Swiss Family Robinson, that was filmed there in 1960! It is considered as the last of the unspoilt islands. Beautiful white-sand beaches, clear blue waters and protected rainforests, fishing huts that have been converted into restaurants, excellent snorkelling…..why not!?
Florida – This is somewhere I would like to take my children, once they’re old enough to appreciate it, and tall enough for all the rides at Walt Disney World! I think it’s such a magical place for them (and me!) to see all their most favourite characters in ‘real life’.
Year started in travel – Started in 2005. Took a break in 2012 and 2015 for maternity leave. I have not worked in anything other than travel since I started as an apprentice.
Hobbies and likes/dislikes?
I like reading, musical theatre and enjoy walking with my family at the weekend.
Cruised WithCelebrity Equinox – 2 night stay to experience the new ship before her maiden voyage Silversea Cruises – A day at Dublin Port to experience this All Inclusive ultra-luxury cruise line
I started at Lunn Poly as a trainee 1993, worked mostly on counter serving customers. Going Places 1995, until 2001. Started as a Travel Consultant. Once I achieved top seller, I progressed to be Assistant Manager. I had a period of acting Manager.
Favourite destination and why?
It’s got to be Italy. The views are stunning, especially around the Amalfi Coast. The people are warm and friendly. The food is the best I’ve ever eaten, and the hotels and architecture are amazing.
Holiday bucket list destinations and why?
Tahiti/Bora Bora – The beaches are stunning, with turquoise lagoons. I would love to go scuba diving around the coral reef, and stay in the luxury guest bungalows perched over the water on stilts.
South Africa – I am a real animal lover, so it would be great to see the ‘Big 5’ in their natural habitat. I also want to do the under the stars experience, dining under the moonlight in the Masai Mara.
Dubai – The hotels boast some of the best in this world, with unrivalled shopping experiences. I have always wanted to stay at the Atlantis the Palm hotel, in an underwater suite that comes with views into an aquarium filled with 65,000 sea creatures. I would also like to visit Dolphin Bay in Atlantis, because it is one of my life ambitions to swim with dolphins.
Year started in travel – I started in travel in 1993, but took a break in 2001 to have my daughter. I also had a successful karaoke/DJing business for 3 years, which was an amazing experience. I have also worked as floor Manager at The Loft bistro, and Brantano footwear, before returning to travel in 2015.
Hobbies and likes/dislikes?
Singing is a huge part of my life. Vacations, shows, music concerts, going to lovely restaurants, shopping, reading, spending time with my daughter, friends and family.
